The Bobby Ozuna Show--May 26th, 2009

It's amazing how easily a simple query or question can open a door of opportunity if you just ask. The Bible says, You have not because you ask not and also says, Ask and it shall be given. Of course, both of these scriptures are relevant ONLY to the person who is diligently seeking the wisdom and insight of God. My journey in life has taken me through many paths, some right and some of my own free choosing, were the wrong ones. As I work to develop the skills, talents and gifts I have been blessed with, I learn a little more everyday how I can apply them to be a blessing to another person's life.

My show--The Bobby Ozuna Show--has been a blessing to many already. I have no doubt God has allowed me this opportunity to bless others as they venture to find their "place" within the world with relation to the gifts they were given. The Bible says all gifts come from Heaven above. And I believe we are responsible for sharing that gift with the world and if you do so, the world will share itself with you. In less than six months I have collected a huge support and audience for my show as part of the Artist First Radio Network and I am working diligently to reach greater numbers in hopes that each week's guest will have a platform as big as any traditional author on the market.

This week I will feature a man who needs no formal introduction within the indie literary world. Mr. John Kremer has been a spokesman for proper efforts, collaboration, networking and marketability of the independently published author. I asked him last week if he would accept an invitation to be a guest and without any delay, he said yes. If you are one of those people who (for some reason) don't know who Mr. Kremer is, well, he is the author of several marketing books, but the most well known being: 1,000 Ways to Market your Books.

I hope you join me tomorrow night (Wedneday May 17th) @ 7PM CST via Artist First Radio Network as I discuss aspects or proper self promotion and marketing from a man who shares so much insight for those looking to follow the voice within their souls. Simply click on the LISTEN LIVE/On Air button to stream the show.

To stay current with this blog, be sure to subscribe. If you are looking for something new to read, please shift through my Shelfari bookshelf below and check out the books of my previous and upcoming guests on my show, The Bobby Ozuna Show.

A Grand Stage for the Independent Author

In light of recent changes over the course of the past few years, the publishing industry is evolving into a fast-paced, robust business, offering the independent author more control over their career. The book publishing world is no longer dictated by the few but by many who are in tune with the wants and needs of the reader community. Book publishing is making technological advances at a more rapid pace than most industries in or across America. With the vast array of online social networking websites, online tools and platforms available today, independently published authors have a greater capacity to market, promote and sell their work. In years past, that responsibility fell entirely to, and was cornered by, the traditional publishing houses.

Naturally, with the increased availability for self-published authors to gather exposure online, there is a still great scrutiny and negative stigma implied by a small assortment of literary experts. Whether the negativity implied is true, this simple fact remains: independently published authors are making huge advances to offer themselves credibility, and they are working hard to establish a fan-base and following for their work. As more and more traditionally published authors are discovering, the workload and post-publishing responsibilities are the same. Getting a book published is only step one—whether self-published or not—but ongoing book promotion, marketing and publicity are critical towards creating a lasting career as an author. But as many self-published authors are finding, the venues for effective promotion aren’t always there.

But there is good news for the independent author, who at times can feel alone as they venture towards creating success. Earlier this year Ozuna Publications launched a LIVE streaming Internet talk show (formerly The Soul of Humanity show) designed to promote and publicize the world of independent artists, specifically Indie authors. As part of the Artist First Radio Network, The Bobby Ozuna Show has since captivated an average online audience of over 10,000+ LIVE listeners per week. What began as a means to help promote my own efforts to publicize my novel Proud Souls, has since streamlined into a community of listeners—readers, authors, aspiring authors and dreamers alike—all together in one mind, of one accord in hopes of providing ourselves a grander stage. In spite of what opportunities may have been lacking on my journey as I began this quest some four years ago, today I offer my fellow self-published author an opportunity to spotlight, not only their books, but the side of their soul you cannot capture on paper or the back cover blurb of a book. In essence, The Bobby Ozuna Show is serving the creative wants, needs and desires of the self-published author and giving them a stage that is becoming one of the largest listening audiences for indie authors anywhere online.

Every edition of The Bobby Ozuna Show is broadcasted live over the World Wide Web and every show is then archived for later listening. Every guest will be forded a one-hour, commercial free spotlight to focus on aspects of their career to a huge listening audience, something they can’t always get because their books are self-published. The Bobby Ozuna Show is on pace to becoming one of the largest and most followed shows on the Artist First Radio Network. It’s not the host who makes the show so great, but the passion by which I choose to support and serve my fellow artist on their quest towards finding success. My hope is [that] every guest on The Bobby Ozuna Show will be forded an opportunity to share other aspects of themselves to possibly the right listener, at the right time, on the right stage to help launch their career to the next level.

As the demand for exposure increases every week, Ozuna Publications will be launching a follow-up show later this summer—The Independent Author—to stream live via the Blog Talk Radio network. This show will feature indie authors exclusively and also feature articles written about the self-publishing world. Presently, Ozuna Publications is offering a range of services to help promote and market guests and their books. These packages vary from simple guest spots to full marketing/press release packages. Every guest gets a feature spotlight on my blog, “Drawing Stories…With Words” as well as the Amazon widget (or general link to their online storefront). Also included are postings/updates on eleven various social networking websites. This is standard to any guest appearance. Our sponsor packages start as low as $500 per month and include banners on the Ozunapub.com homepage and Bobby’s blog. Each sponsor gets air advertisement read by Bobby Ozuna during either or both weekly shows. Both potential sponsors and interested guests can query Ozuna Publications and host, Bobby Ozuna, via email here: bobby@ozunapub.com. To catch archived broadcasts of the show you can navigate to the Artist First Radio Network homepage @ http://artistfirst.com and from there select The Bobby Ozuna Show from the right-hand sidebar. You can meet upcoming guests online by subscribing to Bobby’s Blog, “Drawing Stories…With Words.”

Great possibilities for the Indie Author

The quest of the independent author is a tough and sometimes, lonely road. There are thousands of books published each year and many of them perhaps aren't worthy of true publication. Others unfortunately are tossed by the wayside and disregarded or worse, because those authors didn't or were not able to land a traditional publisher neglected. As my friend Dennis Batchelder pointed out on a recent Amazon discussion board, hundreds of thousands of books per published last year between the indie and traditional publishing worlds. With such a high number of new titles produced each year, it's hard to determine whether the quality of books is degrading with each passing year. My argument is this: Whether an author or their title is worthy of print publication, only time will determine whether that author stands a chance of being a career writer. The work is hard, the hours and commitment are long and still to establish oneself, a would-be career author has to think outside the box and discover ways to stand out in an overcrowded world.

For me this road has brought me many new challenges and with that, many small victories. I am pleased to announce some major changes within my organization--Ozuna Publications--with relation to what I can offer the literary world, especially independent authors. It has taken me a little over four years to establish myself within the literary world and in doing so, I have extended my abilities, services and expertise to more than simple story-telling.

For starters, my show, The Soul of Humanity, has now been changed to The Bobby Ozuna Show. Part of establishing yourself as a credible source of information, in any business, is working hard to build a mantra or brand for your name. What hurt me in the beginning by publishing Proud Souls under an obvious self-published imprint of Ozuna Publications has now become a center piece for my business. Ozuna Publications now features one of the biggest shows on The Artist First Radio Network. My show streams LIVE every Wednesday night and it is gathering a huge following and momentum for other indie authors. Not only do I offer a huge online world-wide listening platform but effective immediatley I am offering Press/Marketing packages to help advertise and promote each weekly guest. Those packages will be posted on my homepage: Ozunapub this week. On top of that, I am going to launch a spin-off show on Blog Talk Radio's network: The Independent Author. This show will stream LIVE every week and feature articles--written by indie authors and experts--pertinent to the world of self-publishing. I will also feature indie authors and discuss aspects of their careers.

Because my show is making huge advances with online listener support, I am pleased to announce various sponsorship rates. I will offer two sponsorship rates and one "author" plug rate for monthly air/online advertisement. The "author book plug:" feature will give an author the opportunity to spotlight their book's cover image on my blog, "Drawing Stories...With Words" and also give them a two-sentence blurb announced to my world-wide listening audience for one full month. This blurb will be announced on either The Bobby Ozuna Show or my new show, The Independent Author. For sponsors, the options for rates will vary between online and air advertisement between or in conjunction with both of my show.

Also, by working to learn the business of publishing and especially after studying the works of Carl Jung, Joseph Campbell and Christopher Vogler, I am now extending my Book Coach services to authors. I am accepting new submissions for potential clients. My services include plot/character development, light editorial services and insight into effective and longterm story-building techniques. No, there are no rules for writing, but yets, there are fundamental aspects that must be applied in every story, in order for them to be lasting, credible and worthy of a following.

Lastly, I will begin work with my new ghost-writing client this summer. I am taking query submissions for my ghost-writing services and those rates vary depending upon the size, nature and requirements of the book project.

You can query me via email here. I am excited about the opportunities God has given me and I am utilizing every gift, talent and ability to become a spokesman for the world of independent publishing. My hope is that within the next year, the names Bobby Ozuna and my organization, Ozuna Publications, can become a reputable force or exposure for the struggling and starving artist who considers the voices of their soul to become the staple by which they survive.

"The Soul of Humanity"--May 6th, 2009

Tonight on The Soul of Humanity, I will feature author Rebecca Lerwill and discuss her book, The Acronym--White Nights of St. Petersburg. (Below is a short blurb about her book.) We will discuss her approach to writing, the reasons behind writing this particular novel and also cover concepts of her struggles to create success.

You can link to the Amazon storefront to purchase your copy of this book--The Acronym--White Nights of St. Petersburg--on the right hand sidebar to this blog.

The Acronym crosses demographics and blurs the boundaries of murder, suspense, lust and passion in an intriguing story of espionage. "The Acronym's thriller focus keeps the reader on edge," says Lerwill. "The dangerous encounters in St. Petersburg delve you into the Russian mafia's sinister motives."
